Red Oak: A Socially Responsible Company
World Bicycle Relief
Heather Weiler, Founder and President of Red Oak Business Services, has 3 loving sons who she brought up alone after being widowed in 2002. She started her bookkeeping business so she could work from home and be there for her dudes, and not spend all her income on childcare.
Living in Canada, she had enough access to resources and opportunities to steadily grow the business. She acknowledges her privileges, and wants to help women around the world gain access to the same.
Heather is an avid cyclist and is an ambassador for the World Bicycle Relief organization, which aims to provide heavy duty “Buffalo” bikes to women in remote areas to they can complete their education, get to their workplace or start a business as a bicycle mechanic.
In her words: “I love the freedom of cycling and the idea of people having that same freedom in what that makes things easier for them is very appealing. To me, the bicycle represents freedom, resources and opportunity.”
But contributing to them as an individual was not enough, so she roped her business in it as well. Now, she donates a portion of all sales to World Bicycle Relief.
